    • About Anchor Pacific
  • Anchor Pacific is a fully independent investment firm whose primary purpose is to efficiently allocate capital as a fiduciary on behalf of our portfolio management clients. We offer discretionary strategies to facilitate building investment programs based on our investment philosophy, as well as providing an “outsourced CIO” solution to clients requiring a comprehensive investment program.

We are a fully independent organization that is unconstrained by existing or previous institutional relationships, and have a duty to maintain integrity, objectivity, and impartiality by all measures.

As a fiduciary, we are required to place our clients interests above all others, and we are bound to no other interests besides yours.  We will never accept a commission or other form of compensation from an asset manager or other manufacturer of “investment products”, and allocate capital by objectively selecting the best means to access each desired asset class exposure and strategy.

Our investment philosophy and framework draws heavily upon the “Endowment Approach” pioneered by Yale University over thirty years ago, as well as that of the large Canadian pension plans, both of which are rooted in asset allocation, diversification, the identification of skilled third-party managers, and economies of scale.

The fundamental tenets of our investment process are:

    • Strategic Asset Allocation

    • Portfolio Construction

    • Investment Selection

    • Risk Management

  • What Anchor Pacific Does

Anchor Pacific manages client investment portfolios on a discretionary basis.  Each client has its own Investment Policy Statement (“IPS”) independently constructed based on their unique life circumstances, goals, risk tolerances, liquidity preferences, etc.

    • We work with our clients to determine the appropriate strategic asset allocation.
    • We utilize a core-satellite approach to portfolio construction with the core portion comprised of asset classes best accessed through passive exposures and the satellite portion achieved through actively managed product.
    • We act as an allocator to third-party managed vehicles whose managers demonstrate skill in generating consistent alpha by exploiting informational inefficiencies, capacity constraints, and other anomalies within certain markets.
    • We actively monitor, review, rebalance, and make necessary adjustments to the portfolio.

In summary, we integrate amongst low-cost beta exposure, proven alpha generators, and portfolio diversifiers to build intelligent portfolios that provide an appropriate level of risk and return.

  • Our Investment Philosophy

Anchor Pacific considers capital preservation in challenging markets to be the most critical component of an investment management framework.  The ability to compound returns over the long-term is greatly enhanced when drawdowns are limited.  This is best achieved through diversification, rebalancing, maintaining discipline, reducing emotion and other behavioural biases, and cost conscientiousness.

The pillars of our investment management philosophy rest on the following:

    • Portfolio returns over the long-term are largely attributed to an investor’s strategic or core asset allocation.
    • Investment portfolios can be viewed as a collection of market factors that can be assembled through a myriad of passive and active investment vehicles.
    • Passive low-cost investment vehicles lend themselves to accessing markets characterized by informational efficiency, and which tend to exhibit mean-reversion and low manager return variations.
    • Non-traditional strategies serve as a portfolio ballast during turbulent times and merit a core allocation in all portfolios based on their ability to provide meaningful diversification, achieve low correlation with other asset classes, and smooth overall portfolio volatility.
    • Identifying active third-party managers that truly and persistently achieve idiosyncratic alpha is exceedingly challenging.
